Aircel Counters Jio With Rs. 2,018 Unlimited Value Pack Offering 1GB Data Per Day, 365-Day Validity

Aircel on Wednesday launched its Rs. 2018 Unlimited value pack for subscribers in Tamil Nadu to take on the competition, especially Reliance Jio that has been disrupting the market with affordable packs. The new pack, available in Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles, comes with a validity of 365 days and offers 1GB data per day alongside unlimited voice calls and SMS. The telco has also launched a new Rs. 154 pack that brings unlimited calls and SMS as well as 2GB data for 28 days. The new packs emerge weeks after Aircel announce that it has a "very positive outlook" for Tamil Nadu and is looking for opportunities in the data space.

Amongst the new packs, the Aircel 2018 Unlimited pack is countering the Jio Rs. 4,999 pack that offers 360GB of 4G data, unlimited local and STD voice calls, and 100 SMS per day for 360 days. With its Rs. 2,018 pack, Aircel is giving consumers 1GB data per day at 4G/ 3G speeds, and once the FUP is exhausted, speed will go down to 64kbps. Similarly, the Rs. 154 recharge gives 4G/ 3G speeds for the bundled 2GB data.

As with other packs, the "unlimited" calls in the Aircel Rs. 2018 and Rs. 154 packs are restricted to 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week. This applies to both local and STD calls. Also, the per day SMS limit is set at 100 messages. The packs also offer roaming outgoing and incoming call benefits.
