Datawind has announced the launch of two new affordable tablets, the UbiSlate 7Ci and UbiSlate 7C+, for the UK market. According to Datawind's UK site, the UbiSlate 7Ci is available at 29.99 British pounds (Rs. 3,000 approximately) and UbiSlate 7C+ at 69.99 British pounds (Rs. 7,000 approximately).
In addition, the Datawind budget tablet models will also hit the US market and will start at $38 (Rs. 2,350 approximately). However, there is no word on the availability of the Datawind tablets in the US.

Notably, both the Datawind UbiSlate 7Ci and UbiSlate 7C+ were launched in India in September 2012.

The Datawind UbiSlate 7Ci is the commercial version of the Aakash 2 tablet, and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It comes with a 7-inch display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The UbiSlate 7Ci is powered by 1GHz Cortex A8 (unspecified chipset) processor alongside 512MB of RAM. It comes with 4GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB with microSD card. The tablet features Office suite and includes Wi-Fi connectivity options.

On the other hand, the UbiSlate 7C+ is said to be Datawind's next (proposed) Aakash 3 tablet. It comes with identical specifications to the UbiSlate 7Ci, except that the UbiSlate 7C+ supports SIM functionality with voice-calling facility. The UbiSlate 7C+ also sports a 0.3-megapixel front-camera.

The Datawind Ubislate 3G7 has also been listed by the company but claims it to be a phablet.

Pocket-lintquotes Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO at UbiSlate, "With recent figures showing that in the UK, 29 percent of the poorest households have no computer and 36 percent no internet, we're working to bring affordable technology to the many hundreds of thousands of households excluded from benefiting from the digital revolution. The development of the tablet stemmed from the realisation that lack of internet adoption in many parts of the world was primarily because of lack of affordability. Our aim is to bridge the gap by offering cost-effective, high-specification devices and internet access that offer excellent value to all."
