Sony has confirmed that new firmware updates for the Sony Xperia M and Sony Xperia M dual are now rolling out. Sony confirmed the news via @SonyMobileNews, which is the company's official twitter handle.

The tweet reads, "We're rolling new firmware for #XperiaM (4.1) & Xperia M dual (4.2) - brings performance improvements, UI & camera tweaks #SonyXperia."

Sony has not also released a changelog for the updates, but reveals via the tweet that the Xperia M and Xperia M dual will be getting performance upgrades, apart from user-interface and camera tweaks. The updates for both Xperia M and Xperia M dual smartphones are available over-the-air (OTA), and also through the PC Companion desktop app.

The Japanese manufacturer has not mentioned a specific timeline for the Sony Xperia M and Xperia M dual firmware updates, though the timing and availability may vary by market and carrier. Sony has also not revealed plans for updating the Xperia M to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, as the smartphone runs Android 4.1 natively while the Xperia M dual is based on Android 4.2.

Both the Sony Xperia M and Xperia M dual were launched in June this year and these smartphones pack in similar specifications, with the major difference being the Xperia M dual is a dual-SIM smartphone.

Lately, Sony has been on a spree when it comes to rolling out updates for some recently, and not so recently, launched Xperia smartphones. The Sony Xperia L received the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update recently, which featured a revamped home screen for handling widgets, apps and shortcuts, and new seven desktop panes.

Previously, the Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra received firmware updates, which claimed to improve battery life.
