Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016), Galaxy J7 (2016) Launched in India: Price, Specs, and More

Samsung India on Monday has launched the 2016 editions of its Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 smartphones. The smartphones have been priced at Rs. 13,990 and Rs. 15,990 respectively, and will be available via Flipkart from Tuesday. The smartphones will be available Radiant Gold, Midnight Black, and Pearl White colour variants.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2016) both bear metal frames, and are the successors to the original Samsung Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7, which were launched in India in July last year. The 2016 editions were first unveiled in March this year in China. Notably, the variants launched in Korea last week are the ones launched in India, with the Galaxy J7 (2016) sporting 2GB of RAM and an HD display as opposed to 3GB of RAM and full-HD display seen in the China variant.

Both the smartphones run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and come with 4G (LTE Cat. 4) support. They sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.9 aperture and LED flash, while both also feature 5-megapixel front-facing cameras with flash and an f/1.9 aperture. Both smartphones also come with the S Bike mode introduced with the Samsung Galaxy J3 (6).

Samsung also announced a double data offer for both smartphones from Airtel for up to six months, which will allow consumers to get up to 30GB of free data.

Other specifications of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) include a 5.2-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) Super Amoled display and is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz clubbed with 2GB of RAM. There is 16GB of storage and the handset supports expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 128GB). The Galaxy J5 (2016) is backed by a 3100mAh battery. It measures 145.8x72.3x8.1mm and weigh 158 grams.

Coming to the Galaxy J7 (2016), the smartphone features a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) Super Amoled display and is powered by an Exynos (model unspecified) octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. It comes with 2GB of RAM and packs 16GB of storage which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). The handset is backed by a 3300mAh battery. It measures 151.7x76x7.8mm and 169 grams.
