The Flipkart Big Billion Days sale started on Wednesday with huge discounts on a wide range of products, especially electronics. The Flipkart offers on mobile phones went live a day later, with the lowest prices on iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, MacBook Air (which were all matched by Amazon India in its own sale), as well as great deals on smartphones Samsung Galaxy S7 and Huawei P9, along with a number of budget handsets. Now the company has come out with a statement that claims it has sold 1.3 million smartphones in the first 20 hours of the sale. It says this is twice the number of smartphones the platform sold during the same time-frame of last year's Big Billion Days sale. The company also said the numbers sold this time is three times that of the nearest competitor.

"These numbers reinforce our position as the absolute leader in smartphones. What Flipkart offers - the latest phones, the large number of exclusives, affordability measures like No Cost EMI, Buyback Guarantee etc. - are unmatched in the industry. So, when it comes to buying a smartphone in India, there is no other destination and our customers trust us to buy the latest smartphones at the best prices," said Ayyappan Rajagopal, Senior Director, Mobiles at Flipkart.

The company says that the record numbers are largely due to various affordability schemes offered during the sale. It said that 1 in every 4 customers buying a premium smartphone did so via Flipkart's Buyback Guarantee. Additionally, over 80 percent of the entire sales in the premium segment happened through offers like No Cost EMI, Exchange, and Buyback Guarantee.
