After making iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus available in launch countries of United States, UK, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore on September 19, Apple has on Friday made the handsets available to buy in over 20 markets worldwide. Apple plans to roll out the new iPhone devices to as many as 115 countries this year.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets are available from Friday for purchase in the second wave of markets of over 20 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Turkey. The UAE will get availability on Saturday.
However, it is still not clear when the Cupertino-based tech giant will make the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus available in India and at what price. Apple had soon after the unveiling of the handsets on September 9 atypically posted a release date on its India site (screenshot) of September 26, but changed it to October 17 the very next day. A day later, Apple removed mention of retail availability from the India site.
Earlier this week, Apple said that it sold more than 10 million of its new iPhone models globally in the opening weekend of record sales of the bigger-screen version of its smartphone. Notably, the US tech giant broke its own record for launch weekend sales of 9 million a year earlier.
In response, on Wednesday, Samsung moved forward its launch schedules, announcing that the Galaxy Note 4 will go on sale in China (the world's biggest smartphone market) on Friday, the same day as Korea. The smartphone is also set to reach US market on October 17. Also, the Galaxy Note Edge will be hitting Korean markets in late October, but will only be made available globally in limited quantities of 1 million units before the end of this year
