While the iPhone 8 and iPhone X debuted last year with fast charging support, Apple didn't bundle any fast charging accessories with both iPhone models. However, it is now reported that the Tim Cook-led company is set to include fast charging-supported adapters and Lightning cables right within the box of the 2018 iPhone family. A special 18W power adapter is said to be developed to deliver the new experience. The 2018 lineup is so far rumoured to include three iPhone models that all are likely to have battery packs bigger than the 2716mAh battery of the iPhone X.

As reported by a tipster on Weibo, and spotted by MacRumors, the new adapters and Lightning cables will come with USB-C and will enable charging of an iPhone from 0 to 50 percent in about 30 minutes. This sounds similar to the fast charging technologies that many Android makers offer in the present market. Further, the design appeared in the leaked Weibo post suggest that Apple is planning to overhaul the current iPhone adapter with a USB Power Delivery unit that will feature a USB-C port.

Apple currently offers fast charging support on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, but for this, users need to purchase a USB-C to Lightning cable and USB-C power adapter separately. Also, third-party accessories makers are not allowed officially to make USB-C to Lightning cables. But the Weibo report indicates that the iPhone maker could open up the standard and allow its MFi partners to start manufacturing compatible cables sometime in 2019.

The availability of USB-C fast charging on the new iPhone models, if it turns true, will certainly upgrade the charging experience from the standard USB Type-A power adapter that offers 12W of power. However, we need to wait for an official word to see the authenticity of the new development.

Late last year, former KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple is planning to offer larger battery packs on the 2018 iPhone models, with the rumoured 5.8-inch iPhone featuring a battery ranging between 2900mAh and 3000mAh. The new models are also likely to retain wireless charging support that Apple introduced with the 2017 iPhone lineup.
