Flipkart has revised its return policy for certain product categories on the online marketplace. The company's 30-day return window has been shortened to a 10-day return window for books, electronics, mobile phones, home & kitchen, furnishing, sports items, and toys.

The 30-day return window remains in place for apparel, footwear, sunglasses, watches, televisions, washing machines, and jewellery. The new return policy will be implemented from July, Flipkart said.

A Flipkart spokesperson commented on the new return policy, saying, "Our returns policy and process continues to be the best and the easiest in the industry. The revised return timeline is aimed at ensuring a more seamless experience for both sellers and customers to ensure quicker arrangement of products and timely replacement.  The new returns policy along with the revised structure in shipping and returns will enable sellers to improve their quality of services while offering them increased predictability."

Separately, the company is also increasing the commissions sellers have to pay, and discontinuing its Zero+ Commission Policy. This will be reflected in an increase in product prices.

"The revised structure across shipping, commission and returns will enable sellers to have predictability and better manage their online business. The standardisation has been designed to encourage sellers who offer superior customer experience and is thus a win-win for both our customers as well as our customer oriented sellers. Our commission and fee structure remains competitive and in many categories better than other market places. Flipkart is closely working with all the sellers to ensure a smooth transition," a Flipkart spokesperson said.

The online marketplace late last month introduced a 'no cost EMI' option, enabling consumers to buy high-end products in a more affordable manner, with no processing fee, down payment, or interest on the equated monthly instalments (EMI).

Shortly before that, Amazon India revised its refund policy in several product categories - specifically, laptops, tablets, monitors, cameras, and camera lenses - saying they will are no longer eligible for refunds, only replacement. Like Flipkart, Amazon India already has a 10-day return policy for mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, monitors, cameras, and camera lenses.
