Apple's acquisition of Beddit is finally bearing fruits, as the company's sleep monitor is now available for purchase on the Cupertino giant's retail website in the US and other major markets. The Beddit Sleep Monitor 3.5 is the latest in Beddit's range, and is designed to automatically track your sleep and provide vital statistics helping you improve sleep quality. It is a thin and flat sensor strip that can be attached to a bed. It will report sleep vitals using the Beddit app on iPhone and Apple Watch.
While no wearable is required, a separate Beddit Sleep Monitor strip is necessary for each person being tracked. Bearing a price tag of $149.99 (roughly Rs. 10,700), the Beddit Sleep Monitor (model 3.5) has been listed in the Accessories section on Apple's website. Apart from that, the smart device is also available in Apple Stores across the US, obviously, subject to availability. The highlight of the Beddit Sleep Monitor is its 2mm thickness that helps it blend in with the room's interiors. Apple claims that the monitor tracks sleep time, heart rate, breathing, snoring, and bedroom temperature and humidity. The listing was first reported by CNET.
Beddit's sleep monitor is also claimed to motivate you with morning results, bedtime reminders, and weekly reports to improve your sleep patterns. The Beddit app is currently available only in the English language. Beddit works on any bed, on any size mattress, and with one or two people in the bed. It also syncs to the iPhone's Health app, but requires iOS 12 or later.
To recall, Apple acquired Beddit back in May last year for an undisclosed amount and terms of deal. After a good 19 months since the deal, Apple has shown some kind of action on the sleep tracking front, which still remains a nascent industry.
Popular health brand Withings, formerly owned by Nokia, also offers a similar product called Sleep that tracks sleep time vitals. It comes with features like advanced sleep tracking, personalised coaching, and home automation, and sports a lower price tag of about $99.95 (around Rs. 7,100). This gadget is compatible with both Android and iPhone.
