Highlights
  • Sony could show off its new PS4 variant, the PS4 Neo.
  • Expect Microsoft to embrace PC gaming, yet again.
  • Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, and God of War 4 are expected too.

It's that time of the year when the Internet is abuzz with rumours and speculation about what to expect from E3, one of the world's biggest video game conferences. It's taking place from June 14 to 16 in Los Angeles much like last year.  We gazed into our crystal ball to let you know what E3 2016 is likely to bring.

  1. PS4 Neo, and a PS4 price drop
At this point, it's all but obvious that Sony will unveil a souped up version of the PS4. With leaks stemming from the likes of Netflix and AMD, as well as news outlets including Kotaku and Giantbomb affirming its existence, you can expect a more powerful PS4 with 4K and VR capabilities. Don't worry though, your current PS4 will play the same games as the Neo; just not as smoothly. We wouldn't be surprised if Sony prices it at $399 (around Rs. 27,000 which would translate to Rs. 39,990 here officially, in line with Sony's India pricing after customs and duties) and permanently drops the price of the PS4 to $299 (roughly Rs. 20,000 but should end up being around Rs. 26,000 officially).

  2. The PC is Microsoft's new priority, again
The Xbox One hasn't been as successful as the Xbox 360 was. Nothing proves this more than Microsoft changing the way it releases reports on the platform, choosing to count the number of accounts online (which includes Windows 10 gamers using the Xbox app) rather than the number of Xbox Ones sold . It's amidst this backdrop that you can expect more Xbox One exclusives coming to PC. Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Killer Instinct, and Quantum Break are just the tip of the iceberg. If reports hold true, Forza Horizon 3, Scalebound, and possibly Halo: The Master Chief Collection might be on their way to Windows 10 as well, making us wonder what the point of buying an Xbox One will be.

  3. From Los Santos to the Wild West
Rockstar Games - the fine people behind open-world Wild West adventure Red Dead Redemption usually don't have a presence at E3. However, their games do end up making appearances at Sony and Microsoft's events. With a leak of what appeared to be the map for Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar owner 2K claiming that the franchise is a permanent fixture, and the fact that every other big 2K game has been announced, E3 might just see Red Dead Redemption 2 revealed. Plus, we're nowhere close to a new GTA anyway.

  5. One remaster you won't mind playing
With Fallout 4 getting its dose of DLC, the fantastic Doom finally on shelves, and Dishonored 2's release date already announced, it's pretty apparent that there's still a long time to go before Bethesda reveals The Elder Scrolls 6 - which is probably going to have a lot in common with Skyrim, the most successful game in the series. In the interim though, there's a good chance we'll see Skyrim remastered for the PS4 and Xbox One. After all, it's not like Bethesda has shied away from rehashing its greatest hits before, with Dishonored Definitive Edition making showing up for current-generation consoles last year.

  6. Kratos returns?
We've seen Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, and Uncharted on the PS4, but barring God of War 3 Remastered, there's been very little in the way of Sony's greek-god-killing mascot. While we do know that God of War 4 is set in Norse mythology thanks to the portfolio of an artist who worked on it, an official reveal would still be nice. Could God of War 4 be Sony's "One More Thing" at E3 2016? We won't have to wait too long to find out.

There are other things we'd love to happen at E3, such as Ubisoft not holding a cringe-worthy press conference for once, or Nintendo revealing more information about its next-gen NX console - but there's a greater chance of Microsoft porting Halo 5 to the Sega Dreamcast.
