The new Hindi transliteration is now available via an update to the Truecaller app and needs to be activated in the app through Settings>General>Language and selecting Hindi. Once the language option has been enabled, the app starts showing caller information in Hindi.
The company in a press statement confirmed that the Transliteration feature will be available to Android devices that are running Truecaller version 6.1. The Google Play India listing of the Truecaller app has been updated with the latest version of the app.
Commenting on the announcement, Kari Krishnamurthy, Vice President Growth and Partnerships in Asia and Country Manager for India said, "Our research showed that a user's experience is the most immersive when Truecaller helped them identify who is calling them. This was the turning point where we decided to innovate beyond translation of the app to a dynamic scenario of transliteration to help users identify the caller in Hindi. We realized the importance and relevance of being able to fully explore the potential of our app for the non-English speaking set of users and decided to offer it as an added feature to them."
The addition of Hindi language transliteration can be expected to be the company's attempt to get more traction from its 100 million users. Last month, the company announced it touched 100 million milestone in the country. The company had also claimed that it identified 900 million calls a month and one in seven calls was a spam.
