Spotify Update Adds New Button to Download Entire Music Collection

Popular music streaming service Spotify on Monday added a new button to its Android and iOS app for users to download list of tracks available offline. It's been reported that in some regions Android users have already received this new feature along with the security update Spotify issued last week after the security breach.

The new feature, seen on v1.2.0 of the tab, can be accessed by visiting Your Music, then the Songs tab, and then clicking the new Available Offline button, below the Shuffle Play button. It is only available for premium subscribers. Users can simply tap the new button, and all of their songs will be available offline for listening on-the-go. This eliminates the earlier method of choosing which tracks to save individually.

Spotify will only allow subscribers to download up to 3,333 songs on each device using the new Available Offline button. The limitation of the feature is that these songs will only be available offline for 30 days. The Google Play India listing of the app still shows v.1.1.0, indicating the new app has not rolled out to all regions yet. The App Store listing in India however, shows the updated iOS app.

Notably, the Spotify v.1.2.0 update fixes more bugs and also provides a safeguard against the recent security breach. Users will be asked to change their usernames and passwords after the update.

The breach had happened to one user account, according to a disclosure posted online last week by Oskar Stal, Spotify's chief technology officer. He said passwords and financial information were not stolen.

On the company's blog, Stal said, "We have taken steps to strengthen our security systems in general and help protect you and your data - and we will continue to do so. We will be taking further actions in the coming days to increase security for our users."
