In a bid to check ragging and help students in distress, especially girls, in and out of the campus, the Lucknow University has come up with a mobile application.

"The LU (Lucknow University) launched a mobile application 'Rakshak' on August 15, which can easily be downloaded from Google Play," Director, IPPR, N K Pandey said.

He said once the app is downloaded, any student in distress could send a message which would directly reach the helpline, adding, it will help in checking any ragging incidents in the campus.

"It is not limited only to LU campus, even outside the campus if any student is in distress he or she could contact the administration officials through this application," Pandey said.

Since the application is GPS-enabled, the university authorities would be able to locate the victim student's position and provide assistance within no time.

The students could also make a call on important numbers of the members of the protorial board.

After downloading the app, it would be mandatory for the student to provide his/her enrolment number, mobile number and email identity for registration.

To verify genuine users, the application would soon receive a one-time password facility. Under this, if a student makes a distress call then the application would verify the mobile number with the enrolment number and if both match, it would prove that the caller was a genuine student.
