EA has announced that Plants vs. Zombies 2, sequel to the popular Plants vs. Zombies, has been downloaded more than 16 million times by fans around the world, making it the most successful mobile game launch in EA's history.
Day one downloads nearly doubled EA's previous mobile record, and in five days the game became the most downloaded game on the App Store in 137 countries worldwide (on either the iPad or iPhone charts), the company claimed.
"We are grateful and delighted with the incredible reception Plants vs. Zombies 2 has received from consumers around the globe," said Tony Leamer, Franchise Business Director for Plants vs. Zombies. "We certainly had high hopes for the game, but to see fans playing the game so quickly and in such huge numbers is truly amazing."
Plants vs. Zombies 2 fans will also appreciate some game-related statistics that EA has shared. The 16 million Plants vs. Zombies 2 gamers have played the game for over 25 million hours and generated over 11 billion suns, over 2 billion zombie waves, and planted over 4 billion plants.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 was launched last week as a free download exclusive to the iOS platform.
Featuring a time-travel theme that propels players through different historical eras to face off with zombies from various time periods. Designed as an ever-expanding universe that will offer regular updates including new worlds full of new plants, zombies and challenges beyond the first three that comprise the initial game, Plants vs. Zombies 2 extends the gameplay of the original and provides players with dozens of all-new levels, plants and zombies.
