The Apple iPhone 8 Plus has been in the news for allegedly splitting open when charging in the past few days. Now a fresh case of the iPhone 8 Plus reportedly popping open due to a swollen battery has supposedly emerged in state media in China. The incident has been reported while Apple is investigating cases reported in Japan and Taiwan. China's ThePaper.cn cited an iPhone 8 Plus buyer saying that his new device had popped open at arrival but there was no sign of scorching or an explosion. The device was purchased through online marketplace JD.com and Liu said that he did not charge the device and returned it to the seller. Picture clicked by Liu show the iPhone 8 Plus with the display popping out of the body. An Apple spokesperson said the company is looking into the matter and declined to comment further.
Samsung phone explodes in man's pocket on video, company blames third-party battery
Samsung is in the news again for explosive reasons and it isn't the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 this time. According to reports, a Samsung phone exploded in a man's pocket in Indonesia. The model is said to be a Samsung Grand Duos launched way back in 2013. The video shows a man falling to the ground as he removes his shirt after the phone explosion. Samsung told CNET that the phone had a third-party battery which was the cause of the explosion. Samsung said, "We sincerely wish for our customer's swift recovery, and strongly recommend all our consumers to use Samsung's genuine or approved batteries that have been specifically designed for use in Samsung products."
Amazon sale offers on mobiles; Best Flipkart deals still available
It is the third day of the ongoing Amazon sale and there are some great offers on mobiles. You can avail discounts on devices right from the newly launched iPhone 8 to the Samsung Galaxy On5 Pro. The Mi Air Purifier 2 is currently on offer for Rs. 8,499 while the original price stands at 12,990.
Apple unveils new emoji due to arrive with iOS 11.1
Apple revealed that the new emoji will be making their way to iOS 11.1. While there is no fixed date for the update release, Apple says that the new emojis will debut in the developer and public beta previews. The new emojis include "more emotive smiley faces, gender-neutral characters, clothing options, food types, animals, mythical creatures, and more", Apple said, adding that emojis have been designed to "reveal every detail and adapted from approved characters in Unicode 10."
BlackBerry 'Krypton' motion full-touch Android smartphone leaked
The Blackberry boys may have a new smartphone to look forward as its 'Krypton' Android smartphone has been leaked in a new render. The biggest highlight of the alleged BlackBerry Motion smartphone is the all-screen front touch panel which means that it won't sport QWERTY keyboard. The leaked render suggests that the home button positioned below the display has the BlackBerry logo on top and a fingerprint scanner underneath. The BlackBerry Krypton is rumoured to be powered by a Snapdragon 625SoC, a full-HD display and 4GB of RAM, it is also said to pack in a 4000mAh battery.
'Ok Google, What's this song?' feature coming soon to Google Assistant
Using music recognition apps might soon be a thing of the past for Android users. Instead, a simple command, 'Ok Google, What's this song?' will be required to fetch information as the feature is expected on the Google Assistant. While this feature is present on the recently launched Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Android Police reports that it has confirmed that this new feature will make its way to other devices when an updated version of the Google Assistant rolls out to them. We will still have to wait for Google's confirmation on whether the feature will be widely rolled out or will be specific to certain countries.
macOS High Sierra supplemental update addresses Disk Utility, Keychain vulnerabilities
Apple is rolling out a supplemental update to its macOS High Sierra 10.13 to fix a software vulnerability. The update fixes the vulnerability in its Disk Utility tool that was revealing passwords of encrypted Apple File System (APFS) volumes in plain text and other vulnerability in Keychain's security mechanism. Matheus Mariano, a Brazil-based software developer discovered the bug in Disk Utility tool that exposed the passwords of encrypted volumes. In a separate support document, Apple said that it has also fixed a vulnerability that let hackers bypass Keychain's security mechanism.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro spotted in the wild, 4000mAh battery confirmed
Huawei's upcoming Mate 10 Pro has been leaked in a live image revealing pretty much everything about the device. The device is scheduled to be unveiled at Huawei's October 16th event. The leaked live images are in-line with recently leaked press renders which reveal the 18:9 aspect ratio and the vertical dual camera setup on the back. To build hype around the phone, the Chinese company has shared a teaser video confirming a 4000mAh battery on the Mate 10 Pro.
HP too is done making Windows Phone handsets
HP, the last manufacturer to offer a Windows Phone in its lineup is giving up on the mobile operating system. The company told The Register that it won't be adding new smartphones to its "Elite" lineup of Windows Phone. Also, the company is ending support for its Elite x3 handset. Nick Lazaridis, President of the EMEA regions at HP, said that the company concluded that "it doesn't make sense" in continuing to build Windows Phone handsets when Microsoft itself doesn't seem as interested in it. Microsoft has changed its strategy and is now less focused on Windows 10 Mobile, Lazaridis was quoted as saying.
BSNL partners Lava, Micromax to bundle offers with low-cost handsets
Indian telecom operator BSNL has partnered with Lava and Micromax to offer handsets at low cost. "BSNL has tied up with Micromax and Lava to provide instruments to BSNL customers at low cost. We are coming out with bundled offers on the handsets manufactured by Micromax and Lava with BSNL SIMs...the cost details are being worked out," BSNL's Hyderabad Telecom District (HTD) Principal General Manager K Ramchand told reporters in Hyderabad.
