MacBook Air and Mac Mini

Apple has begun transitioning from Intel CPUs to its own processors, starting with the MacBook Air and Mac Mini powered by the new M1 SoC

With no cooling fan, the MacBook Air delivers good enough performance for everyday use while staying completely silent.

The new MacBook Air is identical to the previous model in terms of weight and dimensions. Only the insides are different.

The new MacBook Air (M1, 2020) massive gains of up to 3.5x faster CPU performance and 5x faster graphics, plus machine learning acceleration.

Battery life is also said to be greatly improved, with the new MacBook Air claiming to deliver up to 18 hours of everyday usage.

The new Mac Mini is Apple's most affordable Mac and gets the same M1 SoC, but with a cooling fan to help with heavy sustained load.

Thanks to macOS 11 (Big Sur), you get exactly the same experience with the new M1 Macs as with Intel-based ones.

The M1-powered Mac Mini has fewer ports than its Intel counterpart. RAM and storage are also non-upgradeable.

Measuring under 20cm square and weighing just 1.2kg, Apple claims the Mac Mini's performance can beat desktop PCs many times its size.
