Microsoft took the next big step forward with HoloLens, which continues in development.

In a visit to India, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella called augmented reality the ultimate computer, describing his first experience of using Hololens.

At the time, Google also launched its phone based AR, and companies like Asus started developing devices like the Asus ZenFone AR.

Remember Pokemon Go? That's one of the best known AR apps so far. Now imagine playing that same game, but without using a phone!

Reliance announced its entry into AR in its AGM in July, showcasing a virtual conference, among other things Jio Glass can do.

Jio Glass is meant for classrooms, and will come with its own selection of apps, to share docs, do video calls, and explore 3D objects.

Apple is also allegedly developing its own AR glasses. We don't know much about it yet, but we've clearly come a long way since Google Glass in 2013.
