90s kids were the luckiest in a lot of ways. They got their hands on awesome titles like Contra, Dave, and Super Mario. But they were also the unluckiest, because some of the most difficult games ever made were also launched back then. Here are some of them:

Super Ghouls and Ghosts (1991)
In the third game of Ghosts 'n Goblins series, you play the role of the knight Arthur, who must once again rescue the Princess from the demons. Other games in the franchise were known for the difficulty level, but this with better graphics was a nicer looking way to die.
YouTube/NintendoComplete This cute looking game received negative reviews mainly because it was just plain difficult for experienced and beginner players alike. It had amazing graphics and sound design for its time though.
The Lion King (1994)
Tomb Raider III (1998)
This is considered by many to be the toughest among the first three installments in the franchise. The biggest problem was the open level-ness of the game. Many initially thought making the game non-linear would have made it fun but it actually just made it more confusing.

Ecco the Dolphin (1992)
In this game, you're Ecco, a dolphin constantly trying to fight off extraterrestrial creatures. You wouldn't expect it to be so difficult, but if you tried doing that mega jump even once, you'd know what we are talking about. Also, it has a whole different meaning now, given several species of dolphins are on the verge of extinction.

Driver (1999)
This game had a ‘Baby Driver' vibe to it, once you got past the insanely difficult tutorial. Yeah. This was a game with a tutorial harder than the rest of the game. Seeing its popularity, Gameloft re-released it on iOS devices in 2009.

Silver Surfer (1990)
This is one of those games that people absolutely hated, unequivocally. The game in itself had nothing outstanding in it, it's just how everyone and everything wants to kill you right away. Just the mere thought of it boils 90s kids' blood.
Battletoads (1991)
Ever played a game and thought “huh, why don't I just thrash my console with a hammer?” Yeah, this game brought that instinct out of you. People failed to get past level 3, and completely forgot that there was something after that.
