Tag Heuer, a popular brand known for its wrist-watches, will be entering the smartwatch market sometime in October or November. The company's first smartwatch is said to be priced at $1,400 (roughly Rs. 95,400), which is close to that of the most expensive of the 20 models available in the Apple Watch lineup, priced at $1,099 (roughly Rs. 69,900).
The firm as we know, has been promising a smartwatch from months now. Notably, the Tag Heuer Chief Executive Jean-Claude Biver last month confirmed the launch of an Android Wear smartwatch in the fourth quarter of this year. However, this time some more details of the smartwatch has been revealed by the CEO.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Biver added that the upcoming smartwatch will offer up to 40 hours of life in a single charge, as compared to Apple Watch's 18 hours. Talking about the competitor Apple Watch, he said "I hope they sell millions and millions and millions of them... The more they sell the more a few people will want something different and come to TAG Heuer."
Last month, Tag Heuer said it is collaborating with Google for customising the Android Wear operating system for its smartwatch. The watchmaker is also partnering with Intel for the SoC.
Another fashion brand Gucci also said that it will be developing a smartband with i.am+ whose functions would include phone calls, text messages, emails and music. The unit of French luxury group Kering gave no details of pricing or launch timing.
Meanwhile the Asus CEO, Jerry Shen revealed that the next ZenWatch, tipped as ZenWatch 2 would not be reaching in Q3 of this year. The company has postponed the launch time of the smartwatch to next year. The firm is also working on its own smartwatch OS, which would consume less power and would increase the overall life of the device.
