The Spectacles allow users to record videos directly from their glasses and then share it onto the company's popular social platform. However, just like 3D glasses in theatres, it was still uncomfortable for people with prescription glasses to put on Spectacles. Now, an optical company has come up with the solution as it is offering prescription lenses specifically meant for Snapchat's Spectacles.
US-based Rochester Optical, a company that previously came up with prescription lenses for Google Glass, has now come up with a similar solution for Snapchat's Spectacles. The pricing of the prescription lenses depends on the power of the prescription, type of the lens, and coating, reports Mashable.
The lens types available for the Snapchat glasses from Rochester Optical include standard plastic, high-index, polarized Rx Sun, and photochromic. While standard plastic lens type will cost you $99 (roughly Rs. 6,800), high-index type will set you back by $149 (roughly Rs. 10,200). Both polarized Rx Sun and photochromic lens types are available for $199 (roughly Rs. 13,600) by the company.
In order to get the lenses, users are required to ship their Spectacles to the address provided by the company. Estimated processing time is two to three days + 1 day for shipping, after the frames are received by the company.
"All of the below lens options are for single-vision prescriptions only. We have no Rx range restrictions and will do our best to accommodate any and all prescriptions," Rochester Optical says on its website.
Snapchat Spectacles have a retail price of $129 (Rs. 8,800) and are available for sale by the company through a vending machine named 'Snapbot' that changes its locations within the US on a 24-hour basis. The vending machine's location can be tracked through a map available on company's website.
The Spectacles, released on November 11, are also available through a pop-up store called "Bot-House" in New York. Apart from these two options, the Snapchat glasses are up for sale from e-commerce sites like eBay but interested readers should be prepared to pay premium price for the product.
It will be interesting to see how the company responds to the demand of Snapchat glasses and when it will make them available for purchase globally.
