At the time of its Apple Watch announcement, the Cupertino firm introduced three editions - Watch, Sport and Edition along with a number of bands. However, days before its official launch, a new version of the wearable has surfaced on the Web, a version which Apple has not mentioned anywhere publicly.
The new version is said to be a complete 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition, replete with a gold link bracelet. Beyonce, a popular singer and one that Apple has recruited before for some of its product launches, posted images of herself at Coachella wearing the completely gold Apple Watch Edition on her website. Previously, a nearly identical all-gold Apple Watch Edition was seen on the wrist of Karl Lagerfeld, Creative Director of a popular fashion brand - Chanel.
As per The Verge, besides the gold colour the band design looks almost identical to Apple's current silver and space black link bracelets for the Apple Watch, further adding up to speculation that the bands is being made by Apple for celebrities, and not any other third-party firm. Notably, the Apple Watch Edition only comes in Classic and Modern leather bands.
Apple may be be gifting this special all-gold edition of the wearable to celebrities and influential figures to create a buzz in the market before its April 24 launch date. Apple has not yet given any details on the price of this variant, or if it will become available for the public in the future or not. Even if the variant reaches the market for general public, it might fall out of budget for many, as it is expected to cost much more than the $17,000 top-end Apple Watch Edition, which ships with leather bands.
Talking about the price, earlier this month Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the company employees would be able to buy the smartwatches at 50 percent discount under the Employee Purchase Plan. Employees will be receiving 50 percent discount only on the aluminium Apple Watch Sport and stainless steel Apple Watch models. The plan will also give them $550 off on the gold Apple Watch Edition variant.
