LG jumped onto the wearable bandwagon in March with the announcement of its first smartwatch, the G Watch, running Android Wear - Google's software project that extends Android to wearable devices .

As of now, the company has not revealed the complete specifications of its smartwatch; however, it has been teasing G Watch features for some time now.

Now, a Korean publication citing industry sources has claimed that the G Watch will come with voice calling functionality. GforGames first picked up the Korean report and notes that the G Watch will come with USIM (universal subscriber identity module) support, which will allow the smartwatch to make calls without being tethered to any smartphone. The report also suggests that the G Watch with voice calling will be first introduced in South Korea by mobile carrier LG U+ .

Earlier, LG confirmed that the G Watch would be released in UK priced below GBP 180 (roughly Rs. 18,000) and would be available before July. As of now, the company has not revealed the complete specifications of its first smartwatch, but has mentioned the G Watch will be based on a 1.65-inch display with a 280x280 pixel resolution, and feature 512MB of RAM and 4GB of built-in storage. Further, there is no word on global roll-out of the LG G Watch.

Notably, a few days ago a report suggested that Samsung has been developing a new smartwatch that could make calls without having to be tethered to a mobile phone.

The report suggested that Samsung has been in discussions with unidentified US, Korean and European telecommunications carriers about a so-called "watch-phone" and that the company hopes to launch a smartwatch with the voice calling feature between June and July.
