A French report has claimed that Google is working to release an Android Wear app for iOS. The Mountain View giant is said to announce Android Wear support for iPhone and iPad devices at the Google I/O 2015 scheduled in late May.

01net.com in a report (via MacRumors) also adds that Google might delay the announcement depending on the sale of Apple Watch. If it turns out to be true, Google's move would make Android Wear devices accessible by iOS device users.

A YouTube video that surfaced last month showed the iPhone paired with an Android Wear-based smartwatch for notifications tipped an imminent announcement.

Apple last month confirmed its 'Spring Forward' event scheduled for March 9 in San Francisco. The company is expected to launch the Apple Watch, which will be available at a starting price of $349 (Rs. 21,600 approximately).

Some of the Android Wear based smartwatches currently available in markets across the world are the Asus ZenWatch, LG G Watch, LG G Watch R, Moto 360, Samsung Gear Live, and the Sony SmartWatch 3.

A market research firm claimed that despite Google's promotion, the Android Wear platform has not been not a big hit. Canalys suggested that over 720,000 Android Wear devices were shipped last year out of a total of 4.6 million smart wearable bands. The report claimed that Motorola was the clear leader among Android Wear brands, although the Moto 360 was hit by supply constraints through Q4 2014. It also added that the LG G Watch R performed better than its predecessor - the original G Watch.
