Lately, Vivo has been looking to make a mark by bringing innovative features from high-end smartphones to the mid-range segment. The company's latest offering — the Vivo V15 — brings the innovative pop-up selfie camera to an even lower price bracket. On paper, the Vivo V15 appears to be a solid device with an attractive design, three rear cameras, a large battery, fast charging, and a high-resolution 32-megapixel front camera. The Vivo V15 certainly has an uphill task in the face of fierce competition not just from value-for-money champions such as Xiaomi and Asus, but also from Samsung, a behemoth whose new Galaxy M-series and A-series smartphones are making waves in the market right now.
The Vivo V15 is a toned down version of the Vivo V15 Pro and aims to bring features such as a pop-up selfie snapper, full-screen design, and triple rear cameras to a lower price point. The Vivo V15 packs a 6.53-inch Ultra FullView full-HD+display (1080×2340 pixels) which offers a rich colour output and is great for watching videos and playing games. But the brightness levels could have been better, and the phone also can’t stream HD videos on Netflix or Amazon due to the absence of Widevine L1 certification.
The Vivo offering is powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, paired with 6GB of RAM, which helps the phone offer smooth performance and good gaming experience. The phone runs FunTouch OS 9 based on Android 9 Pie an offers a tonne of useful features such as message screen splitting, Smart Lock, Extreme Power-Saving Mode, Esports Mode, etc. But it does come pre-installed with a lot of bloatware.
The triple rear cameras capture detailed photos with punchy colours, impressive details, and good dynamic range. The Vivo V15’s cameras struggle a bit under harsh daylight, and low-light images turn out to be grainy with a lot of noise. The selfies captured by the 32-megapixel front camera look crisp and there are also a lot of features to play with. The large 4,000mAh battery is a key highlight and helps the phone easily last through a day of heavy usage.
