After the success of the Momentum headphones, Sennheiser had decided to introduce a wireless version of the popular headphones at CES this year, and as expected initial reactions from most tech journalists were generally favourable. Unfortunately for Sennheiser, the initial batch of Momentum Wireless headphones that were sold in the US plus a few review units which are in circulation seem to have issues with audio when transmitted over a Bluetooth connection.

Sennheiser has in fact acknowledged to both Engadget and Gizmodo that there is indeed an issue with audio, and that it is taking this problem very seriously. Although, the company states that the problem only affects a small number of headsets. But Adam Clark Estes from Gizmodo advises readers to take that statement with a pinch of salt as he claims all three of his test units are affected by this issue.

The problem is only limited to wireless connectivity because the sound quality is said to be fine when a cord with a 3.5mm jack is plugged into the headset. The sound quality over a Bluetooth connection is reportedly drastically affected in areas with traffic congestion, over voice calls, and when multiple devices are connected to the same Bluetooth network on devices that support it.

Sennheiser has asked people who already own the headphones, and facing this problem, to return them. The company intends to service this under the original two-year warranty. Moreover, Sennheiser is reviewing each complaint on a case-by-case basis to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem. Until then, we'll have to wait and watch.
