Your mobile phone, laptop, and portable media player all have digital-to-analogue converters (DACs) in them. This is the component that accepts the digital signal from your media and converts it into an analogue signal that your speakers and headphones can comprehend. However, in most cases, this is a small component that is no larger than your fingernail, and offers only basic conversion of the signal. But what if you could ignore the basic converter and switch to a device that converts the signal with greater precision?

That is what MSB Technology offers with the new Select DAC. The American company proudly manufactures the entire product in-house at its factory in California. We met the founder of MSB Technology, Lawrence Gullman, who explained the technology that went into creating the new Select DAC.

"We worked on the new Select DAC from the ground up. The device contains eight pairs of MSB Hybrid DACs and the Galaxy Femto 77 Clock, which is among the best jitter clocks in the world. There are also optional replaceable input and output modules, so you can easily upgrade your Select DAC in the future. A one year free upgrade is offered to customers of the Select DAC if we upgrade the technology going forward, and above that, customers are guaranteed a ten-year upgrade path. This means that if the product or an individual component are upgraded after a year but before ten years, the customer has to option to upgrade by paying only the difference in price between components," said Mr. Gullman of the Select DAC.

We had a chance to listen to the Select DAC in a system also comprised of Jeff Rowland amplifiers and the legendary Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus speakers. The results were astounding, with fantastic soundstaging and depth offered by the MSB Select DAC.

MSB Technology products are now available in India through distribution partner Audio Vision India. AVI is one of the first major importers of high-end audio equipment in India and has an established reputation in the industry. The company also handles India distribution for a variety of other brands, including Bowers & Wilkins, Magnepan, Jeff Rowland, Rotel and many more.

The firm has not provided the price of the Select DAC in India, but to give users some perspective - it costs $90,000 (roughly Rs. 57,50,000) in the US.
