Logitech brand Ultimate Ears (UE) has launched a new Bluetooth speaker - Roll, which is designed like a frisbee and comes in a plethora of colours and patterns. It will be available in the US in June 2015, for a retail price of $99.99 (approximately Rs. 6,500).

The UE Roll comes in seven different colours and patterns, and they are called - Volcano, Atmosphere, Sugar Plum, Reef, Pinata, and Sriracha. Though the company says the "UE Roll is IPX7-rated waterproof", an IPX7 rating actually implies water-resistance, with a limited time of immersion - in this case in up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes.

Apart from being water-resistant, UE also claims that the Roll features a plasma-coated acoustic skin which is stain resistant. The Roll comes with an attached marine-grade bungee cord. The UE Roll has dimensions of 135x40mm and weighs a substantial 330 grams, especially when compared to similarly sized Bluetooth speakers.

Internally, the Roll has one 2-inch driver and two small 3/4-inch tweeters pumping out the sound. It operates in the frequency range of 108Hz to 20kHz, which essentially means that it cannot hit the sub-bass sounds, just like most tiny Bluetooth speakers. UE states the Roll takes 5.5 hours to charge using the bundled Micro-USB cable and can last up to 9 hours on a single charge.

The UE Roll can be paired with up to 8 devices at one time but can connect and play music with only two source devices at the same time. It can wirelessly stream music over Bluetooth 4.0 to two UE Rolls at the same time from a single source. It has a connectivity range of up to 65 feet. There is a companion app available on both iOS and Android, and UE will roll out over-the-air updates for the Roll to add new features. Currently, it has a few unique features like musical alarm, custom tuning, and remote on/off from the app.
