LG is touting the 105UC9's "truly immersive viewer experience", with its UHD resolution (5120x2160 pixel) of over 11 million pixels, and CinemaScope 21:9 aspect ratio. LG says when viewing programs in a 16:9 format, the unused screen space on the sides can display additional information or programming details to enhance the viewing experience.
The LG 105UC9 features LG's True 4K Engine Pro and IPS 4K Panel, where the former is touted to 'eliminate visual errors' and 'upscale lower-resolution content into near-Ultra HD quality', while the latter is said to deliver 'consistent contrast, true-to-life colours and a wide viewing angle.' Notably, the TV also features LG's Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D technology to deliver '4K 3D+' viewing.
The South Korean electronics giant also says the LG 105UC9 features a built-in 150W, 7.2 channel sound system that incorporates the company's Ultra Surround concept. The speakers were developed in partnership with Harman Kardon.
LG adds that the 105UC9 is a Smart+ TV, featuring the webOS platform. LG says its webOS platform is great for switching between content and browsing the web, as well as discovering new shows, apps and services, apart from connecting to media stored on external devices. The animated BeanBird character also makes the initial setup and connection process quicker.
"The vision behind LG's 105-inch 21:9 Curved Ultra HD TV was to bring the movie theatre into the living room," said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV Division at LG's Home Entertainment Company. "Featuring a curved 5K CinemaScope screen and a 7.2 channel speaker system, the 105UC9 is LG's most spectacular Ultra HD TV yet. This product pushes the envelope in home entertainment innovation and demonstrates what is possible when you bring today's most advanced TV technologies together."
