The key feature of the new headphones is the fact that it packs in 45mm dynamic drivers, along with a frequency response ranging from 5-40,000Hz which helps it achieve the requirements for meeting the High-Resolution Audio standard. The over-ear headphones also feature a swivel design for easy storage and portability, along with memory foam ear pads for enhanced comfort.
The ATH-SR5 comes with a detachable 1.2 m smartphone cable with in-line mic and controls to make it possible to answer calls and handle playback (play, pause, fast-forward, reverse, next/ previous track) of music and video on compatible smartphones and other portable devices. The headphones also come with a carry pouch for storage.
The new headphones are priced a bit higher than one of Audio Technica's most popular current models, the ATH-M50x. Another model from the company, the WS770iS is also priced around the Rs. 8,000 mark, while the more expensive ATH-MSR7 also sticks to a high-resolution audio centric sound signature. This new model will hope to sit somewhere between these headphones, offering a neutral sonic signature that aims to achieve a sound that is as close to the recording as possible. It's also been designed with comfort in mind, with its over ear fit and soft ear pads.
