Over the years, Comic Con has come to be about so much more than just comics, becoming a place for all things pop-culture. These days, that usually translates into superheroes, and this year was no exception, as San Diego Comic Con 2016 reveals over the weekend were dominated by news from Marvel and DC, showing off their respective cinematic universes.
Marvel announced major casting news in the form of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, who will first appear in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, and then get a solo movie in March 2019.

DC meanwhile showed us a Wonder Woman trailer that was pretty cool, and also what looks like a promising clip of the Justice League. Both companies also had a lot to show on the television front. Read on to see all the top trailers from DC and Marvel at SDCC 2016.
Wonder Woman
Despite the horrible colour palette that DC's movies have had so far, Wonder Woman looks promising. Its trailer makes it look only a little washed out, while the little we're seeing about the story seems to be focused on just telling one story, which is something Batman v Superman could really have taken some tips on. So far, we're psyched about Wonder Woman, which releases in June 2017.
Doctor Strange
The Sorcerer Supreme gets a trailer that looks pretty cool with some Inception-style building rearrangement. Doctor Strange is releasing in November, and it's based on a premise that's so campy that it truly holds the potential to slow the MCU juggernaut down. There's definitely some amount of cringe in the mystical Asian trappings shown in the trailer, but hopefully the film can pull it off.
Suicide Squad
The Suicide Squad movie is out soon, and DC has an amazing trailer that shows you all the bad guys in action.
Justice League
This one's not a trailer, according to DC, only Comic Con special footage, but either way it's really cool looking footage for Justice League. Frankly, it's hard to see why this shouldn't be called a trailer, but the film, which releases in November 2017 is looking very promising at this point - hopefully it won't spend too much time on origin stories, and just let us get into the action with the superteam that's being assembled.
Luke Cage
We met him first on Jessica Jones, where Luke Cage got enough screen-time to be a fellow lead rather than a cameo building up a bigger universe. Now, Cage is getting his own show on Netflix soon.
Iron Fist
Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage have already been introduced, and now it's time to meet Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. Starring Finn Jones - whom you might know as Loras Tyrell from Game of Thrones - the show will start on Netflix in 2017.
The Defenders
We've known for a while that Daredevil and the other Netflix-Marvel shows have been building up to a group called the Defenders, a supergroup that puts together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Well, Netflix just made it official with this very short teaser.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Speaking of teasers that really don't tell you much, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - that one Marvel show that you watch because you keep telling yourself it's going to get better - has a new super joining the gang, and it's Ghost Rider. It's probably not Nicholas Cage, but wouldn't it be so cool if he decided to do this?
Apart from these trailers, Marvel also offered details about the upcoming Black Panther movie, Thor Ragnarok, and it showed a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which will release in 2017. The movie will star Sylvester Stallone as a Nova Corps enforcer, and Kurt Russell will play the father of Star Lord (Peter Quill). The footage hasn't been uploaded online yet - apparently the visual effects aren't finished - but it sounds very exciting.
Flash
The CW also revealed a first look at The Flash - the third season of the show is going to tackle Flashpoint, which was one of the big storylines from the comics. The world looks very different from what we saw in the earlier seasons, so it'll be fun to see everyone play out new parts.
Legends of Tomorrow
DC's superhero mashup show continues hopping through time to save the world. The first season was decent, but hopefully the show can pick up a bit - the trailer looks fun at any rate.
Arrow
There's also a new trailer for Arrow Season 5 - if you're one of the people who are asking how the show has continued for this long then this trailer isn't going to convince you that things are going to change, but if you're still a fan, there's plenty of cool stuff to see.
Those are the the trailers from DC and Marvel we thought were really cool - did we miss anything? Let us know via the comments.
