Telecom regulator TRAI Friday extended the date for receiving stakeholder comments on mobile number portability (MNP) for corporates and the consultation paper on unified emergency number.

A corporate mobile number is allotted by operators in the name of a firm or organisation and may need authorisation for being ported to another operator.

TRAI has extended by one week the deadline for receiving comments on porting of corporate numbers to April 9, while for single digit emergency number, stakeholders can now send their written comments to it till April 18 and counter comments to April 25, TRAI said in a statement.

The deadline for porting of corporate number was April 2 while for emergency number was April 5 for written comments and April 12 for counter comments.

In a consultation paper on "Universal Single Number Based Integrated Emergency Communication and Response System (IECRS), TRAI has sought comments if 100 or 108 should be set as the emergency number for the entire country for various emergencies like fire or medical or accidents.

For corporate mobile numbers, the regulator has proposed that they can be ported out only if signed by the authorised person to whom that number has been allotted.

"No corporate mobile number shall be ported unless the porting request in respect of such number is accompanied by an authorisation issued by the authorised signatory of the subscriber to whom such number has been allotted," TRAI said while releasing Telecommunications Mobile Number Portability (Fifth Amendment)Regulations, 2013.
