Tata Communications has joined hands with Qatari telecom firm Ooredoo Qatar to launch Middle East's first IPX+ enabled network.

Ooredoo Qatar, formerly known as Qtel, will use the platform offered by the Tata company to provide this service, a statement from the Indian telecom major said.

The platform offers integrated access to multiple data transport options over a converged IP network, supporting multiple services across networks.

"We are seeing a huge demand for our IPX+ connectivity platform from mobile network operators looking to capitalise on the mobile data explosion," said Allan Chan, President of Global Carrier Services, Tata Communications.

The network supports a combination of services, including Voice-over IP exchange (IPX) and messaging among others. It also claims to be more efficient at a lower cost.

The collaboration will also enable Ooredoo to capitalise on the latest technological innovations in mobile broadband service delivery and management, the statement added. In addition, it will help manage the ever-growing demand for wholesale voice, roaming and data services in Qatar.

Speaking on the occasion, Yousuf Abdulla Al-Kubaisi, Chief Wholesale and International Officer, Ooredoo, said: "We're confident that Tata Communications is best-placed to help us migrate to IPX which will enable us to roll out more innovative and tailored services to our customers across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia."
