The company has operations in Delhi and Mumbai only. "Anyone having mobile connection of any operator can send an SMS to 9868552121 and get a new landline, broadband or mobile connection of MTNL. This long code is accessible round-the-clock and even on holidays," Bhargava said.

The service will be charged as per normal SMS rate of the operator, he added.

"MTNL dolphin customers can access this service on short code 52121 which is toll free for them," Bhargava said.

The ED added the company has started similar facility through its website as well.

"Once customer reaches us through phone or online medium, the lead is immediately send to sales team which through their retail network, delivers the services to customers at their premises," he said.

For Mumbai, MTNL has started booking of broadband connections through a toll free number.

The state-run telecom firm has also started a toll free number, 1800111503, for customers looking to shift on its network using mobile number portability service which allows a customer to change his mobile phone service provider while retaining the mobile number.
