The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that it will examine Reliance Jio's Happy New Offer. The telecom regulator's statement comes just hours after Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that the new Jio Happy New Year Offer will extend to March 31, 2017 all the voice, data, messaging, and other services made free by the company under its introductory Jio Welcome Offer.
Reliance Jio's Happy New Year Offer will be activated on January 1, 2017, a day after the Jio Welcome Offer – that also provides all voice calls, data and apps free to existing Jio customers – ends.

"We will look into it. Every tariff that is filed before us is examined. We will come up with our response at appropriate time," Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman RS Sharma told PTI when asked about validity of Jio's offer. TRAI had previously allowed Reliance Jio to provide free services for customers who subscribed to its services till December 3 under the Reliance Jio Welcome Offer until the end of this year.
