Apple at its event in September announced that the iPhone XS, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max would be its first smartphones to get dual-SIM support, with one physical SIM card and another eSIM. China, however, gets two physical SIM slots due to country specific restrictions. The Cupertino giant has now rolled out dual-SIM support for the newer iPhone models and they can now be used with eSIM from Indian cellular operators including Airtel and Reliance Jio. Here's a step-by-step process on getting the Jio eSIM to work on your iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR, as detailed to Gadgets 360 by Jio.
How to set up dual-SIM with eSIM on Reliance Jio's network
Whether you are an existing or a new Jio user, you will have to visit an offline Reliance Jio store to acquire an eSIM.
Existing users can take their physical Jio SIM card to the Jio store for an eSIM. You will be asked to fill a CAF (Customer Acquisition Form). The CAF details will be entered into a POS (Point Of Sale) machine and the SIM swap option will be chosen. Once done, the machine will generate a barcode and miscellaneous SIM details. This barcode is then scanned using the Cellular option in Settings on the concerned iPhone.
Scanning this barcode creates an eSIM profile on the user's iPhone, which is similar to the virtual process of installing a physical SIM card. The CAF then goes through the standard verification and validation process. Once completed, the eSIM gets activated and the existing physical SIM card is deactivated.
New eSIM users on Reliance Jio's network can also apply for an eSIM in a similar manner. Go to your nearest Reliance Jio store and fill up the CAF. CAF details are then entered on the POS machine where the relevant prepaid pack or postpaid plan is chosen. A barcode will be generated which is then scanned on the eligible iPhone model. Once done, an eSIM profile is created on the phone. Verification and validation follows, and the eSIM becomes active once the user is validated on the operator's network.
