Airtel on Monday launched its VoLTE services in Mumbai and while the company has only launched the service in the aforementioned city, it says that over next few months, it will rapidly accelerate the deployment of technology to bring the service to cover "all key geographies" in India. If you want to get on the bandwagon and enable VoLTE on your smartphone we will let you know the steps that need to be followed. So, without wasting further time, here is what you need to do:
First of all, you need to check whether your smartphone is compatible with the Airtel VoLTE service or not. In order to do this, you need to head to www.airtel.in/volte. In its release, the company said that it has tested and certified popular device models for the compatibility with its VoLTE service. It further added that more models will be added to this list going forward.
Some of the popular device models that are already compatible with Airtel's VoLTE service include the iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy J7, Galaxy A8, Galaxy J2 Pro, Galaxy J2 2016, Xiaomi Mi Max Prime, Redmi Note 4, Mi Max, Mi 5, Gionee A1, and Oppo F3 plus.
The interested customers need to ensure that their handset is running the latest software to ensure that it is compatible with VoLTE. Just to clarify, these software updates are provided by the handset makers.
It might seem like an obvious step but customers need to make sure that their handset has a 4G SIM installed. If this is not the case, you can go to the nearest Airtel store and request the upgrade.
Users on iOS need to head to: Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Enable 4G > Turn on Voice & Data
On the other hand, users on Android need to head to: Settings > Mobile Network > Turn on VoLTE call
For those customers who are currently using dual-SIM handsets, Airtel SIM needs to be inserted in the SIM slot with data capability and network mode as "4G/3G/2G (Auto)". In order to enable the feature, they need to head to: Settings > Sim networks > Preferred network type > 4G/3G/2G.
