  • How does it fare after a year of use?
Sahil Shah (May 2, 2014) on Gadgets 360
When it was launched in mid 2012, Sony was hardly known for its Xperias in India. There was a Samsung wave and almost all smartphones sold were Galaxy branded. This device has been with me more than a year and it fared pretty well with the tasks thrown on it. Obviously cannot be comparing it with today's highly specced devices, here's the detailed review: Design and Ergonomics: It has a flat front with no buttons, squared edges and a curved back. At its thickest part it is more than 10mm, but is very comfortable to hold the device thanks to its curved back. Fitting nicely in the palms it has a screen size of 4.55 inch, comfortable to use with one hand. Display: It has a 720p display with good viewing angles powered by Sony Mobile Bravia and X Reality engine. The display is pleasant to look at and colours look very natural. Camera: It has a 12mp camera which takes great daylight pictures. Lowlight pics look grainy owing to its small aperture. Camera software could have been improved for better overall performance. Performance : Powered by Snapdragon S3 it was fairly outdated at launch. It handles all tasks very well but playing latest graphic intense games will not be a pleasant experience. A ram of 1GB powers thw phone but free Ram is very less leading to problems during multitasking. Battery life: It carries out its task for maximum a day at medium usage(Web browsing half hour, playing games like subway surfer for a hour, keeping myself updated with Facebook). Durability: It has taken many blows but thankfully didn't break. Just a few scratches was all. Software: Using the Timescape UI, it is very minimalistic and User friendly. Launched with ICS, was updated to Jelly Bean 4.1. It is pretty outdated for today's standards but Qualcomm ended supporting the chipset. Using better chipset by Sony would have made a better overal experience. Conclusion: It was one of the best phones one could have bought at that moment. Needing no repairs and giving no problems after a year is very good. Its display and camera were its USP back then and it fares pretty well for me even today.
