Nokia's rise and fall has been well documented by now, with the story punctuated by multiple missed opportunities and poor decisions. The unfortunate company, once a dominant force in the technology world and now owned by Microsoft, never managed to bring out a modern touch-friendly smartphone platform of its own and suffered as competition from Apple and Android manufacturers decimated it.

Jolla Smartphone Summary

Jolla, the company risen from the ashes of Nokia's former MeeGo effort, has released its eponymous debut smartphone in India. The device looks unlike anything we've seen before, with a sandwich-like design and two distinct halves. It has fairly unexciting specifications, but the operating system is all new and has tonnes of innovative touches, such as pulley menus that let you select options with a single finger swipe, and live preview tiles that can be swiped to make their respective apps perform specific actions. The rest of the Jolla smartphone's features are just about okay, with a decent camera and battery life.

  • A TRY TO REVIVE A DITCHED OPERATING SYSTEM.....
Nik Nigam (May 24, 2014) on Gadgets 360
The first smartphone after a long time to run a modified version of meego an operating system ditched by nokia in preference of windows...the phone is hard to compare with anything else as nothing like it exists right now...the user interface is very refreshing as it provides new and better ways to navigate the phone and gives notifications etc somewhat differently to what the regular joe is used to...the interface is very smooth and a little customisation is possible...it has its fair share of glitches as it does not play all multimedia natively and the third party apps available are also woefully inadequate...there is no android software compatibility which leaves the phone's app store way behind that of google and apple...although the phone has everything going against it,it has a glimmer of potential if used correctly and is therefore suitable for developers and geeks as a test device to explore the operating system's potential and develop on it

  • Price is Out of our league!!!
FABIAN JOHNSON (Sep 23, 2014) on Gadgets 360
Heard that this phone is priced 400$ outside india, when you can get better specs for 100$-150$, for example Redmi. So what is the the Company thinking? Sure the phone will sell like crazy if it was priced between Rs 5000 to 6000 in India.
