The quarter earnings report is just a week away and insiders predict that Apple may post the best three month figure for the number of iPads sold so far.

Apple-watcher blog, AppleInsider, places the figure in the region of 8.5 million units sold. Analysis firm Ticonderoga Securities puts it, slightly more conservatively, in excess of 8.22 million.

If the iPad touches the 8.5 million mark, it will be a record quarter earnings figure. Previously, around 7.3 million units were sold in the fourth quarter of 2010.
