According to a report by The Korea Economic Daily that cites industry sources, Samsung is now working on a 12-inch tablet, which will of course be the biggest screen size yet on a Samsung tablet. The report claims that the alleged 12-inch tablet PC is expected to use Samsung display's LCD panel while it is likely to have a higher than full-HD resolution.
The report also mentions that the exact launch date is not confirmed but the 12-inch tablet PC can be expected as soon as this October.
Earlier, a report by Digitimes cited sources from the upstream supply chain to claim that both Apple and Samsung are developing tablets with a 12-inch or larger display. The report added that other vendors are not considering entering the segment as 9-inch and 10-inch devices are suffering from poor sales, and only the 7-inch devices are seeing any kind of traction.
In July, @evleaks had posted the specifications of Samsung SM-P900, a 12.2-inch device that would boast of a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels and be powered by an Exynos Octa 5 processor. The device also supports the S-Pen, Samsung's stylus solution for its Note series tablets and phablets. Another technology site also published specifications of the alleged 12.2-inch variant of the Samsung tablet dubbed as SM-P900. The site suggested that the SM-P900 tablet will run Android 4.2.
Previously, a report in the Korean media mentioned that Samsung Display and Sharp will supply about 2.5 million 12.2-inch panels to Samsung Electronics for a new device. The report had claimed that the displays would be made by Sharp and will be based on IGZO (Indum-Gallium Zinc Oxide) technology. It said that Samsung was likely to launch the tablet in the third quarter of 2013.
