Lenovo, ahead of its pre-IFA 2014 event on Thursday, has unveiled its first ever 8-inch Intel Atom-powered Android tablet, dubbed the Tab S8, alongside the Y70 Touch gaming laptop and the Erazer X315 gaming desktop.
The Lenovo Tab S8 has been priced at $199 (roughly Rs. 12,000) ahead of taxes and subsidies. The company has not yet provided availability details however.
The Tab S8 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box, and sports an 8-inch WUXGA (1920x1200 pixels) IPS display powered by One Glass Solution touch-panel technology. A quad-core 64-bit Intel Atom Z3745 processor (1.33GHz base clock, up to 1.86GHz) with Intel Burst Performance Technology and 2GB of RAM powers the tablet.
Until now, Lenovo only made Intel-powered devices running Windows or Windows Phone OS. The Tab S8 tablet comes with 16GB of inbuilt storage with no expandable option listed. It sports an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera (f/2.2 lens) with an LED flash, while there is a secondary 1.6-megapixel HD fixed focus front-facing camera also onboard.
On the connectivity front, the Lenovo Tab S8 includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. The Lenovo Tab S8 tablet packs a non-removable 4290mAh Li-ion battery, which is rated to deliver up to 7 hours of usage time and up to 400 hours of standby time.
Apart from boasting of the Tab S8's ultra-thin screen bezels, Lenovo says the tablet also features dual front-facing speakers powered by Dolby Audio. The company has listed Ebony, Blue, Canary, Yellow, and White colour variants (depending on regional availability) for the Tab S8, which measures 209.8x123.8x7.9mm, and weighs 299 grams.
Lenovo also announced the Y70 Touch gaming laptop, which the company claims is its first 17-inch touch device. The Y70 Touch gaming laptop comes in three variants and is available to buy from Lenovo's US online store. The three models - 80DU000EUS, 80DU000NUS, and 80DU000HUS - are priced at $1,399.99 (roughly Rs. 84,700), $1,499.99 (roughly Rs. 90,800), and $1,689.00 (roughly Rs. 1,02,200) respectively. Lenovo adds that the laptops will be available with major retailers in October.
All three models of the Lenovo Y70 Touch run Windows 8.1 64-bit OS and sport a 17.3-inch full-HD LED anti-glare multi-touch display. An integrated HD (720p) webcam is also included.
The three models of the Y70 Touch gaming laptop are powered by the fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4710HQ Processor (2.50GHz, 4 cores, 8 threads, 6MB cache). However, the difference between the three variants is in system memory, dedicated GPUs, and inbuilt storage.
Notably, the Y70 Touch 80DU000EUS model features 8GB of DDR3L (1600MHz) RAM and Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M GDDR5 2GB GPU. The Y70 Touch 80DU000NUS and 80DU000HUS models feature 16GB of DDR3L (1600MHz) RAM and Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M GDDR5 4GB GPU. The Y70 Touch 80DU000EUS and 80DU000NUS models feature 1TB of SSHD storage, while the 80DU000HUS instead features 512GB of SSD storage.
All the Lenovo Y70 Touch laptop models sport the same connectivity features including Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/b/g/n, as well as the same battery - a 4-cell 54-Watt Hour Li-Po battery. Sized at 422.9x290.6x25.9mm, the Lenovo Y70 Touch laptops weigh a rather hefty 3.4kgs, and boast stereo speakers powered by JBL alongside a backlit keyboard for easy typing during low light conditions.
