So you want an iPad 2.
So do a lot of other people. At first glance it might seem that you're completely out of luck. Apple's Web site says the wait for a new iPad 2 is four to five weeks, up from just three to four weeks on Monday. Going to an Apple store likely won't work either as most retail outlets are completely out of inventory.
But, there are solutions.
First, in the Apple stores.
Although an Apple store clerk willtell you they are out of stock when you call to check, the stores receive new shipments each morning. You have two options here.
First, you could take your chances and wait online in line at an Apple store. When an Apple store does receive inventory of the new tablet employees will place a sign in the store windowthat says "iPad 2 Available Here." So if you don't see the sign, don't waste your time going in.
The lines usually start forming around 7 a.m. and you might have some competition from those hoping to buy and sell an iPad 2 for a hefty profit.
Another alternative is to call theApple store at 8:30 a.m. where a clerk can tell you if a new shipment of iPad 2s arrived. Most stores usually open at 10 a.m., but will open at 9 a.m. ifthey have the iPad 2 in stock.
The Apple store isn't the only place selling the iPad 2. You can also buy them at Best Buy electronics stores. If you call aBest Buy they will also tell you the device isn't in stock. But they will take your name and put it on a waiting list. You can also add yourself to the waiting list by going to any store and talking to the store concierge. This solution might be the best bet as you don't have to wait in any lines or continually call stores. Here is the important part: they will contact you when the iPad 2 comes in.
Finally, for those who just can't wait through lines or have extra cash to burn: you can go online to eBay or Craigslist and purchase an iPad 2 for about $300 more than the original price from those people who did stand in line.
