The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-based HCL Me Champ Tab is powered by a 1GHz Cortex processor with a Mali-400 GPU, which are coupled with 1GB of RAM. It features a 7-inch display with 800x480 pixels resolution. Other features of the tablet include a 2-megapixel rear camera, 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 4GB of built-in storage (further expandable up to 32GB via microSD card), a 3100mAh battery, and connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Mini-HDMI and 3G (via dongle).
The latest HCL Me Champ tablet comes with content that comprises children's videos, comics, games, knowledge and music. It also comes with pre-loaded exercises in subjects like art, geography, history, language and mathematics. The company mentions that the device also offers free access to more than 500 apps under categories - games, books and education, and to all videos under the kids TV segment.
Further, the Me Champ tablet comes with tracking features, a control mechanism to help parents monitor their child's activities and an Application Manager that offers parents the ability to select apps and restrict tablet use duration for kid's access. The tablet features two modes - Parent mode (where the tablet functions as a normal device) and Kids Mode (in which parents can define the content the kids can access).
Commenting on the launch, Gautam Advani, Global Head, Mobility Business Unit, HCL Infosystems Ltd. said, "We are very happy to launch our new ME Champ tablet specially designed for kids powered by a unique parent control feature. This product is aimed at parents who have their child in the age group of 3 to 12 years, and strengthens our tablet portfolio."
