The Apple iPad mini event is set to take place in San Jose, California within the next 36 hours where, the company is also expected to launch a 13-inch Retina-equipped MacBook Pro. At such a time, AppleInsider has managed to get their hands on what it claims is a new product SKU list mentioning 24 models for the 7-inch tablet from Apple.

It is necessary to clarify that 24 models will not translate into 24 different iPad mini configurations. The SKU list details 4 models namely P101, P103, P105 and P107 which are said to be indicative of four different storage capacities along with rankings for 'Good', 'Better' and 'Best'. These further could suggest that the tablet may may come in WiFi only, 3G and 4G LTE variants.

The list also has letters 'A' and 'B' next to each model, which could presumably translate into the colour options for the tablet. Then, each version will have different colours to choose from that would roughly end up to around 24 different models.

The list hints that the the smallest-capacity iPad mini could debut with only 8GB of storage, which will be a first timer for an Apple tablet considering that the larger 9.7-inch iPad starts at 16GB. Other capacities to follow could be 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.

The blog also refers to a single "source familiar with Apple's product inventory" regarding availability and pricing of the entry-level iPad mini model and rumours of the new iMac desktops going on sale.

One person familiar with Apple's product inventory said the company's initial shipments suggest availability of the presumed entry-level "P101" model will be the greatest at launch. An inventory list that surfaced from a retailer last weekend suggested an entry-level 8-gigabyte model could cost around $249. The person also added that Apple is rumoured to begin selling new iMac desktops on Oct. 24, one day after the anticipated Oct. 23 event.
