Amazon's Android customers spend more money than Google's

Mobile analytics firm Flurry has released numbers that indicate Amazon's Appstore makes nearly four times money per-user via in-app purchase than Google Play (or Android Market as it was called until recently). Apple's App Store continues to lead both Amazon's and Google's offerings, though Amazon is, surprisingly, breathing down Apple's neck.

Flurry examined top-ranked apps that exist on all three platforms iOS, Amazon and Android. Further, these apps have in-app purchases as the preferred revenue model. Flurry measured the revenue over a 45-day period earlier this year. Combined, these apps average 11 million daily active users (DAUs), so the findings of this analysis cannot be easily dismissed.

According to the results of the analysis, for every dollar (100 cents) spent on the Apple App Store, 89 cents are spent on Amazon's Appstore and only 23 cents on Google Play. It's important to note the numbers are per active user, so the total number of active users on each platform hold no sway.

Flurry's findings are in line with similar analysis they did December last year, where Android developers generated 24 cents to Apple developer's dollar.

Flurry goes on to provide some analysis as to why Google's struggling to generate good numbers for its developers:

"Amazon's bet to fork Android in order to put consumers into their own shopping experience on Kindle Fire appears to be paying off. Showing its commerce strength, Amazon already delivers more than three times the revenue in its app store compared to what Google generates for developers.

For some possible insight, let's consider the DNA of each company. Apple runs the highest revenue-per-square foot generating retail store on the planet as well as the successful iTunes store. Amazon, who invented the one-click purchase, perfected online shopping with data, efficiency and customer service. Google's strength is in scalable online search engine and advertising technology. Running a store, retail or digital, has not been Google's traditional core competency."
