Xperia M-a Great Package.
Shefali Bahl (May 18, 2014)
on Gadgets 360
Sony Xperia M is a sub-13K smartphone with really impressive specs.
DESIGN: The phone is quite attractive on the first look with its black hard back finish. Complementing is the arc shaped design that gives a rich feel on holding the phone.
SCREEN: The screen is quite good, scratch-resistant and has apt viewing angles.
The automatic light sensor is really good and you don't face any problem in the sunlight.
Ergonomics: The tactile response is upto-the-mark and doesn't disappoint you in any way. The handset is easy to use single-handed.
USING:- The Phone comes with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box and shall soon receive 4.3 upgrade....
The UI is simply great but not as good as the HTC Sense which undoubtedly has the upper hand.
The Android on-the-screen touch buttons are great and work well. It's kind of great feature that not many phones of the same segment spot.
The phone is equipped with 1.2 GHz Dual-Core Snapdragon processor that is optimum for this phone.
The phone comes pre-loaded with many essential and useful apps.
GAMING:- The phone leads you to a whole new gaming experience, with no lags even for games like FIFA 14 and Modern Kombat.. On my usage, the phone didn't hang at all even with plenty of apps installed and running...
The touch response is quite to-the-level with no problems and smooth performance..
The phone is really fast and it is evident from the launching pace of GOOGLE NOW.
The Speech Recognition efficiently recognises Hindi words.....
Xperia M has good Wi-Fi networking and the Bluetooth connectivity is great, and not-to-forget NFC(the one-touch sharing)....
The Phone spots a 5MP Rear Shooter which has quite high level shooting modes, but I'm afraid the Picture Quality is just Average with colours being a little dull in Low-Light conditions and the low-width range of the Best Picture Resolution Mode. However, the phone has a all four-direction Panorama along with HDR....
The phone also has a front 0.3 MP camera that's just good for selfies in well-lit conditions...
The Internet Connectivity and speed for both EDGE and HSDPA are quite amazing..
The Sound Quality is great (Thanks to Walkman Technology)..
One Major drawback is the occasional problem faced while switching ON Mobile DATA as it doesn't start with a click and you have to do the same twice or thrice...
I bought the phone for my mum last year in October and at that time no other phone could match it at all......(literally)..
FINAL VERDICT:- Sony Xperia M is indeed a Show-stopper of the sub-13K segment with almost all the features resembling its 16K sibling Xperia L.....
It's a phone for people looking for a low-cost Android Phone consisting features of a Mid-Range one and most importantly 1.Brand Name and 2.Great UI which other low-cost androids don't possess.....

Superb pick for the casual users

I have been using Sony Xperia M for almost an year now. This will be a technical review from a layman perspective. The phone was JellyBean 4.1.2 out of the box. Recently updated with the official update of JellyBean 4.3 from Sony. Starting with the form factor, it is a nice 4.00-incher, pretty easy to hold with very little chances of dropping. Would have been nice if the bezels have been cut down a bit. The built quality is good with a nice solid back cover embarked with Sony logo!!! The screen resolution is good with 245ppi, a decent screen depth for an average user. Would have been nice if Sony integrated the IPS screen which is being present in all recent Sony high-enders. The user interface is pretty smooth with no lag whatsoever for a normal usage. The touch response time would have been better. It integrates all the latest features of a typical android. Internet usage and connectivity is pretty good. The problem zone is with camera and the battery. The camera stills are almost unusable especially with the latest update of 4.3. The video is okay but not good for the bitrate it consumes. I have to admit that M has got a more than average camera flash though. The battery capacity is okay but it should have been lasted for a few more hours with average use. The phone now lasts almost for a day with average use. The screen of the device also does not help. The brightness levels are not calibrated well enough. Overall, this time Sony has got the pricing right. It is a decent buy for the features it offers. Competitors are Samsung Galaxy core, Moto G, Samsung galaxy S3 mini, Xperia L, HTC Desire 500 etc..

Good phone at a good price
Ruben Bhattacharya (May 1, 2014)

Bought this phone as it was the best looking phone at its price range and has some impressive specs.
It is light and slim.It has some decent viewing angles although not great.Picture quality is decent but could have been better.
Performance is snappy and multitasking is a breeze thanks to its 1gb ram and dual core processor. The adreno 305 graphics is capable of handling all the common games in android.4gb internal memory becomes a bottleneck in playing big size games.
Audio quality is fine as it is something Sony specialises in.
Call quality is good in areas with good network coverage.Quality went slightly down in areas with low networks but still acceptable.
Connectivity is taken care of.Had no problem sharing files through Bluetooth,nfc.Wi-Fi reception is good.
The camera is okay.Picture was nice in daylight but lowlights photography is a strict no.The front camera is a joke.Don't even think about video calling.
The battery is decent for normal usage.I have to charge it everyday.
I give it a 4 star rating as it runs all apps flawlessly, has good audio quality, nice looks and fits in the budget.
I will recommend it to those who have a tight budget but wants a good looking phone with no compromise on regular performance like multitasking and some casual gaming.

here are no physically dedicated buttons on the front bottom; in fact that area is taken up by a multicolored LED that lightens up showing off various colors (check the video review). You can setup the LED light ? example for incoming SMS?s you can set it to red color and for incoming call you can set it to green color. When you are viewing images using the image gallery the LED lightens up and based on the image the light color changes ? if you are viewing an image with more Red color in it ? the LED light goes red.
The 4 inch TFT screen supports 854480 pixels resolution and because there is no physical navigational buttons some of the area is taken up by on-screen buttons and what you get is 782480 pixels resolution. The color reproduction is good and touch is smooth and responsive.
Of the 4GB internal storage 2GB is assigned of apps of which 1.5GB is available and of the 1GB RAM you get 512MB free. There is micro SD card slot that supports up to 32GB. Unfortunately you cannot install or move apps on external storage.
This handset comes with some decent features, benchmark is impressive considering the hardware that it houses. The colorful LED light looks good but users might get bored pretty soon. The price of under Rs. 13,290 though seems good considering the SONY brand with NFC included, however there are some feature that are not at par like the camera output, cannot play FHD videos etc. The SONY Xperia M will not impress those who really don?t care about the brand.
Its good as far as i know ...so you can choose accordingly.

I am very disappointed with this phone. Last year I bought 2 phones within a week. It has been one year since then. I am unable to use desired apps as the apps cannot be transferred from internal memory to external memory. As far as look is concerned it looks very nice. the problem is that due it always shows red sign even when I have not installed some important apps like Skype, and online shopping sites. Now due to this problem I have to buy another phone or tab which I don't want. I don't know what to do now. The earlier Sony phones have this facility to transfer the data from internal to external memory. Very VERY Disappointed............ :(

Xperia M - review after 5 days of usage.
Suraj Nair (May 13, 2014)
on Gadgets 360
It has been long since sony has started hovering over the entry level mid - range smartphone section especially after the launch of one of its flagship named Xperia Z. In this review lets talk about the sony Xperia M after 5 days of usage and not just flaunt of its specifications.
This device boasts of its dual core processor clocked at 1 GHz, 4 inch, 5 megapixel rear camera and 0.3 megapixel front camera, 1 GB ram, 1750 mAh battery and so on and so forth.
When I first held this device, it seemed to be difficult to leave the device - thanks to its convenient screen size but its a matter of personal opinion whether a person likes a small screened device or a large screened one.
The phone looks premium. In terms of looks department, the phone is pretty flexible - thanks to its wide range of colourful back covers - purple, yellow, black and white.
The built quality of this phone is one of the best among the mid range group of smartphones sporting a matte finished back which is resistant to fingerprints and dust unlike glossy plastic back which is predominant in samsung phones.
The storage on this phone is disappointing with 4 GB out of which only 2GB is available to the user.
When the features of this device is read aloud from the package box, probably it won't astonish you but don't be fooled by that. The user interface has very little lags and the gaming experience on this device is close to buttery smooth although it just sports a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 plus processor clocked at 1 GHz.
This phone did struggle while combating in benchmarks with a Quadrant score of 4254 and a score of 11629 in Antutu benchmark.
The battery life is good lasting 2 days with moderate usage and a day with heavy usage.
The call quality is disappointing.
The camera and video quality is just mediocre and the display quality is not overwhelming which fades when viewed from an angle.
Coming to the final verdict, the sony Xperia m is good package for the one who is price consious and demands many features.
