The outrage over 20-year-old Delhi University student Radhika Tanwar's murder spread to virtual platforms and social networking sites as bloggers and netizens vented their anger.

Social networking site Facebook had one such group "Stand With Me" opening within less than 24 hours of the murder on Tuesday, with 91 members joining it.

"To be shot in broad daylight by a random person can be scary for anybody. We need actions, not press cons (conferences) by police officials (sic)," wrote Sehdev Sehgal, a member of the group.

Radhika, a resident of Naraina area in west Delhi, was a student of Ram Lal Anand College located in Shantiniketan, New Delhi.

She was crossing a foot over-bridge near Dhaula Kuan with her friends when suddenly a man shot her from behind and disappeared into the crowd of students and office-goers on Tuesday morning.

The protest group on Facebook has witnessed posts not just from the youth, but also parents who demanded security for their children.

Samhita Parashar, a member of the group, posted: "With what assurance can we send our child to school or college when we see a young girl being shot dead, and the police unable to catch the assailant. This is injustice not just to the girl, but also to thousands of parents in the city."

A large number of students of the university also held a protest march Wednesday demanding arrest of Radhika's killer.

Holding placards, the students marched from Ram Lal Anand College in the university's south campus towards India Gate.

The protesters raised slogans like "We want justice".

"It is a shame for Delhi cops to call the city safe with such mishaps going on. We do not want more Radhika Tanwar murders happening in the national capital," said 20-year-old Sanya Jacob, a student of Jesus and Mary College.
