Micro-blogging site Twitter may soon roll out an automatic Night Mode UI to its Android app that will swap out the white background and replace it with a darker appearance.

The testing of the new feature is happening among a small number of alpha testers, reported an Twitter user running the v5.112.0-alpha.423 build on Monday. The UI is said to switch automatically at night time, and come back to the standard white background UI with black text in the day time.

The Night Mode UI reportedly sits on top of a Material Design overhaul of the app that has been in testing since last month, 9to5Google reported. It also features slightly different button placements, with hamburger slide-out menus, overflow buttons, as well as floating action buttons (FAB) for the composing of new tweets.

Earlier this month, Twitter rolled out a new Connect tab on its mobile apps to make it easier for people to find accounts to follow. The feature is available in Twitter's latest app on iPhone and Android.

The tab suggests a list of accounts based on those already followed, as well as popular ones in the area, product manager Ricardo Castro said in a blog post.

"To give you the best recommendations - which we'll continue to refine over time - we look at who you already follow, tweets you like, popular accounts in your local area, what's happening in the world right now, and more. We'll also let you know exactly why we're showing you each recommendation," Castro said.
