Instagram, the highly popular photo sharing app has surpassed the 50 million user mark. Though there hasn't been any official announcement from Instagram,
Mashable has picked the numbers from Instagram's API. The API also shows that the app is roughly adding 5 million users each week.
The app was initially available only for iOS. But the recently launched
Android version seems to be attracting a greater number of users. In less than 12 hours of its Android launch, the app
clocked over one million downloads. Another likely factor contributing to this growth is
Facebook's acquisition of the app for $1 billion. The app was also successful in making it to the top iPhone app spot for a few days.
According to photo sharing site
Gramfeed, which uses the Instagram API, username 'fox289' is the 50 millionth user of the app.
