Instagram, the popular Facebook-owned image sharing service, back in 2013 first introduced support for videos as well. Until now, the service let users upload videos with a time limit of 15 seconds. However, the company on Tuesday announced that it has extended the video length limit to 60 seconds.

"We want to bring you fun, flexible, and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you'll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you'll see this year," added the company blog post.

The firm also said that in the last six months the time people spent watching video soared up by over 40 percent. "And longer videos mean more diverse stories from the accounts you love, whether it's Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) hanging out with friends or beauty star Bretman Rock's (@bretmanrock) latest makeup tutorial."

Instagram for iOS in future will also be getting back the ability to make videos out of multiple clips from the camera roll. The longer video feature has already started rolling out to users. Multi-clip video feature for iOS will be available this week as a part of the update v7.19.

Instagram earlier this month said it will give higher priority to posts that each user is likely to care about most, something which Facebook has been doing for a while now.

The company has not only been catering updates for Android and iOS but is also focusing on Windows users. Instagram this month finally came to Windows 10 Mobile. While still in the beta phase, Instagram for Windows 10 Mobile offers several interesting features including one that mimics Apple's Peek and Pop that utilise 3D Touch display.
